Sometimes we like our music to speak to us, and inspire us; Fuel our dreams, and passions. However, sometimes, you just want something loud you can sing along with, am I right? I like to think of this as popcorn music. It is comfortable, and you can devour a lot of it in one go. So, I thought I would give us a little popcorn music this week. It is a little harder than the music I have featured before. If you like epic electronic covers, Sybrid is an awesome choice ( Look up ‘All the Good Girls Go To Hell’). They also have a bunch of instrumental albums that are amazing. I love Celldweller, especially for something to sing along to. The last two songs on this list are just fun. Hope you enjoy!

Last week, we went with vocal music, so this week let us talk about instrumentals. For this list, I tried to stick with songs that did not have lyrics attached to them in the first place. (You will find that some artists will release instrumental versions of the songs, but they are basically just dropping the vocal track.) Not that these are not good, but I was interested in finding tracks that convey a narrative or picture through just the play of the music. I went a little heavy on the Neofolk. I find that this genre has fairly rich instrumentals. I first encountered them on the Industrial Legacy compilations, on the Neofolk and Traumfolk iterations. For the last song, I have always found Blue Stahli is good for a pick me up.

- Nova Apocalypsis – Sagittarius (Neofolk/piano) Spotify |Youtube
- Fierce Pop Starlet – Blue Stahli (Industrial/EDM) Spotify | Youtube
I have been compiling all the songs on the blog that are on Spotify into a playlist, so you can find them easily. Erisian Jukebox Presents

It is a rainy and mellow week here in Calgary, so I thought I would bring you some songs that build melody like raindrops; these a cappella songs show what can be done with the human voice, and gives a little insight and awareness into what we hear in the song. The music is layered and complex, even when it sounds simple and straight forward. The melody builds on itself, and creates atmosphere (again with the atmosphere. 🙂 ) Many people are aware of Pentatonix, but here are others out there who sing a cappella and create lovely structures out of their voices.

Today I wanted to talk about video game soundtracks, but instead of being general about it, I ended up getting pulled into a particular composer/ studio. I will revisit video game music again, but for now, let’s get into a bit of a deeper dive today, and talk about the amazing music coming from the Failbetter games in collaboration with Mickymar Productions LTD. They made a text/card browser game called Fallen London, whose lore and world led into the game Sunless Sea. (They also made Sunless Skies, but it was scored by a different composer, and I wanted to stay on topic today.). Failbetter also made a game called the Cultist Simulator, another card-based game.
The music in these games is spectacular. Not easy to find necessarily, but worth the trouble. These are instrumentals that create unforgettable atmospheres. It is what pulled me into the games, and kept me there. The first two songs on the list are from the Cultist Simulator; you can get the soundtrack on Itunes, Steam, or Spotify. Fairly easy to find. They conjure up a mysterious dreamy quality that follows you beyond the computer screen.
The opening from Sunless Sea is a haunting tune full of foreboding. You can find this OST on Itunes, Steam, or on the Failbetter Bandcamp, I believe.
The last songs are from the Fallen London Soundtrack. It hits all the main locations in the world, and is worth the effort to find.

Life is rather tricky right now, for everyone. We are living in interesting times. It can be difficult to keep your mood up. So, here are some new suggestions for just that. Songs you can sing along with at the top of your voice. Some are bouncy, some are driving, but they all have a clear message: We will go on.

Music has always be a passion of mine. I have never gotten the hang of writing it, but as they say ‘ What I cannot create, I recognize” ( Blaqk Audio, Cites of Night). I am still moved to share with others that which has affected me. That is why I have started this blog. I want to share the music I am finding, and inspire others to dive into the well of song and explore. There will be different genres, artists, and themes, so everyone can take something with them. I will try to include links to Youtube and Spotify so you can find the songs easier, and can then explore similar songs from there.
For the first post, I thought I would post 5 songs I am listening to right now on repeat.
